Maheshinte prathikaram review

Fahad Fazil is back with his new movie Maheshinte prathikaram with debutant director Dileesh Pothan who was the long term associate of director Ashiq abu.
Fahad who was once the face of new generation films have done something new and refreshing in Maheshinte prathikaram.Maheshinte prathikaram is a simple tale based on the People of Idukki and the director has done a tremendous job in narrating the nature of people in this place with ease.
The story revolves around Mahesh bhavana(Fahad) who is looking after a photography studio after his father gets aged. Mahesh is in love with his childhood friend Soumya portrayed by Anusree. The films main plot come into action when a death and some funny incidents occur in their Place. The movie has so much of life in it.
Fahad has shown complete justice to his character by living as Mahesh bhavana. He once again proves that he is an asset to the malayalam film industry.
Anusree makes her presence feel as Soumya. Aparna balamurali as Jincy has carried down her role naturally. Saubin shahir is fabulous with his trademark witty dialogues. A lot of new faces has been introduced  and most of them made their mark in this movie. We can feel the presence of the people around our villages  because the actors were living in this movie.
The main credit goes to the director Dileesh Pothan who made the viewers fallen in love with Idukki and the people around the place. Even though Syam pushkaran's script is very simple and the latter half little lagging we won't feel bored through out the movie. The romantic Scenes in this movie is outstanding. Shyju Khalid has done a wonderful job in capturing the scenic beauty of Idukki. The editing in this movie is also commendable. Bijibal's back ground score has done justice to the visuals and the songs written by Rafeeq Ahmed are also beautiful. The director had done a lot of innovative scenes in this film. The effort taken by Ashiq abu to produce this movie is also commendable.
On the whole Maheshinte Prathikaram can be included in the front row of the changing face of malayalam cinema. This movie might not be the cup of tea for all but those who want to see something refreshing Maheshinte Prathikaram is a must watch.

Charlie Movie Review

Film maker Martin Prakkat is back with his much awaited flick Charlie. Charlie was a highly anticipated movie among the fans of dulquer and the  movie lovers of Kerala equally because of  the previous two offerings of the director.Dulqer's last movie was Ok kanmani which was released on april and Charlie is releasing after a gap of  8months which is a long duration in malayalam cinema. So the expectation was very high and Dulquer's massive beard became a trend setter among the youth. But Charlie is a simple, feel good romantic tale that spreads happiness every where with out having an edge off the seat twist nor much anxiety.

Dulquer appears as the title character charlie who likes travelling and enjoys life to the fullest. The script writer didn't take any effort to say about  Charlie's past or childhood. He considers life as a celebration and tries to bring happiness to the people surrounding him.The female lead is Parvathy and her character Tessa is an artist based on Bangalore who has different outlook towards life. The further plot revolves with Tessa in search of Charlie who finds his character interesting.

Dulquer salmaan is just brilliant as Charlie. Dulquer had  done justice to the role.He is improving as an actor in each of his movies. Parvathy  looks stunning as Tessa and can be called as one of the finest actresses of her generation. Her matured acting skills is commendable. The onscreen chemistry between them in the climax scene is outstanding. Saubin shaheer is marvellous with his comic timing.
The rest of the character including Aparna Gopinath, Nedumudi venu, Kalpana, Chemban Vinod, KPAC Lalitha has done their parts with near perfection.

Martin Prakkat has done a commendable effort in coverting a light love story into a fresh movie experience.Jomon T John mesmerises everyone with his outstanding visualization. Sameera Saneesh the costume designer and art director needs a special applause.Unni R's screenplay in the latter half of the movie had some flaws and was little lagging. There was not much of an excitement in the screenplay since the pre-release hype was at its peak. But the director himself admitted not to go with much expectation on to the theaters and that's all this movie is about. But Unni R's tallent in writing exceptional dialogues was seen in parts of the movie but not as that of Big b and Munnariyippu.
The strength of the movie is the perfect characterization.

Gopi sunder's back ground score is just brilliant and one or two songs are also nice.Rest all of the songs are good to hear only in theaters. The narrative is however hobbled by too much of songs in the post intermission.

Overall Charlie is a feel good, enjoying  ride if you go without much expectation and don't be highly curious about who will be in room no 66. Markin Prakkat is fully on top as the director.

Overall rating- 3/5

GANGSTER COMEDIES;seriously humerous

Gangsters should be no laughing matter. Movies like The Godfather,Scarface, and L.A. Confidential revel in crime's capacity for destruction and moral corruption. But spend any time reading news of the weird and you'll see that, with the correct perspective and distance, illegal activities can be hilarious—desperate people doing desperate things, and with awful results. Thus, the Gangster-comedy.

Gangster comedy movies are a sub genre hybrid of comedy films and crime/gangster films. It revolves around a mafia along with comedy plot lines. Many crime/ganster movies involves a lot of comedy moments in between the witty conversations of the gang members. In these type of movies the viewers feel humorous when the gang members in the villian squad dies.

A lot of humour in these types of movies is based on the portrayal of gangsters as ordinary people. The perception towards gangster is that they are tough, violent, mysterious, evil mind characters.Humorous effects in these type of genres comes when some sort of normalities are assigned to those characters.Americans already uses irony, pathos etc as a source for humor in contemporary culture. So much of plays and television series made us laugh at the absurdities inherent in catastrophic situations. In these type of movies comedy can be seen as a younger brother of mighty tragedy. These gangster comedies can be related to black/dark comedies.
Quentin Tarantino

These type of genres came to the industry by 1930s with movies like Trouble in paradise which was released in1932 directed by Ernst Lubitsch. But these types of genres became highly popular with entry of director Quentin tarantino. His films included non linear story lines, satirical subject, high amount of violence and features of neonoir..His films like Reservoir dogs,Pulp fiction showcased a new dimension to modern cinema. So many regional film makers adapted his style of film making in their industry. Some of the critics called Pulp fiction as the greatest film of modern cinema.

In addittion to Tarantino makers like Guy Ritchie,Coen brothers also done notable films of this genre.Ritchie's Lock, stock and two smoking barrels and Snatch was also highly praised by critics as well as audiences. Many regional films took influence from these movies. These movies also made an entry to actors like Jason statham and gave a new dimension for Brad pitt.Coen's  The big lebowski was also very successful.Movies like kiss kiss bang bang, seven psychopaths, catch me if you can,The sting and many more made this genre popular.

Gangster comedies in India

Not much of experiments were done with gangster comedies in India.Movies like Ishqiya, Dedh Ishqiya, Delhi belly were some of the movies which became critically and commercially successful.

Tamil movie makers have done a commendable job in experimenting these genres recently. Movies like sathuranga vetteai, soodhu kaavum, Jigarthanda, Naanum Rowdy dhaan were very much successful. These type of movies created waves in tamil cinema.Tamil superstar Ajith kumar's Mankatha can also be included as a gangster comedy which became a box office blockbuster.

Malayalam film maker  Lijo jose pellissery  made a brave attempt with his film Double  barrel, but was panned by critics and was a boxoffice disaster. Movies like Neram, Aadu oru bheekara jeevi were also some of  the movies made in malayalam, in which the former was a boxoffice success and the latter became popular in miniscreen.
Most of the movies that were released in these categories were widely regarded well both critically and commercially.Very less directors experimented these genre in their industries. It might be because of the toughness in mixing the fun and fear elements in a specific way. There are a lot of scopes in this genre to explore that can contribute much to the modern cinema.

100 YEARS(2115 film)

John Malkovich
John malkovich are Robert Rodriguez are one of the most important pioneers of the hollywood film fraternity in acting and film making respectively. Both of them are having some all time block busters on their credit commercially andcritically. Think the secrecy around the biggest Hollywood blockbusters is crazy? They don’t come close to what John Malkovich and Robert Rodriguez are doing. The pair has collaborated for a film that no one will see for 100 years. Literally.

This isn’t some joke. They’ve made a film, called 100 Years, which is being placed in a special time-locked safe that won’t open again until November 18, 2115.Even it might be impossible for both of their grand children to witness their work which is gonna rewrite the history of the hollywood industry. Why? Well, because it’s promotion for Louis XIII Cognac, an ultra-luxury liquor that is aged 100 years. Bottles currently on shelves were made in 1915 so they decided a piece of art that speaks to their commitment to quality was something worth doing.

“Louis XIII is a true testament to the mastery of time and we sought to create a proactive piece of art that explores the dynamic relationship of the past, present and future,” said
global executive director of Louis XIII, Ludovic du Plessis, in a news release.

They approached Malkovich, who du Plessis calls the “the greatest actor of his generation,” to come up with an idea. What that idea is, they would not say. It’s all part of the secrecy and illusion. All they’d say was it’s set in the present and is “emotionally charged,” according to Rodriguez.

“There were several options when the project was first presented of what [the future] would be,” said Malkovich. “An incredibly high tech, beyond computerized version of the world, a post-Chernoybl, back to nature, semi-collapsed civilization and then there was a retro future which was how the future was imagined in science fiction of the 1940s or 50s.”“Some of it was strangely accurate, oddly enough, but of course the vast majority of it was unimaginable. And I think that’s what the future is to most of us,” he said.

Shuya chang is the female lead in the movie. In a cool twist Louis XIII will be giving out 1000 metal tickets that will allow the receiver's descendants to see the screening of " 100 years" in 100 years.
